Sukki, it's a brand new extension. The new update has controls for saturation and lightness / brightness / luminance. Also I hope it fixes the dark background issue that some have reported (though I don't know which OS they were using).
November 21, 2017 at 12:09 am #20058Shonie RoseParticipantTook me a few minutes to get to the update, but got it. Now current tab is colored, all other and top toolbar white. No theme showing at all. I tried changing the brightness but didn't seem to do much. Still way bright! However, it is an improvement over the blurred blue and loss of theme in the these old lady eyes can at least see the names on the tabs. I hope to see more improvements soon, but am thankful for the work you have been doing to get our beautiful tabs back.
November 21, 2017 at 5:58 pm #20079Karey KumliParticipantI installed Firefox 52.5 (Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR)) and it says, when adding Colorful Tabs through Tools/Add-Ons, "This add-on requires a newer version of Firefox (at least version 57.0). You are using Firefox 52.0."
When I start from https://www.addongenie.com/ I get a pop=up from the left of the URL stating "Firefox prevented this site from asking you to install software on your computer". When pressing "allow" it says "Firefox has prevented this site from installing an unverified add-on", and takes me to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct
I will follow this as long as I have the patience but would prefer to have a direct link to the correct version of CT for ESR. Thanks so much for struggling through with this!
Before I switched from Firefox 57 I was sure this forum had a link for adding the right version of CT to ESR but now I can't find it.
And duh, I lost all my open tabs on 3 pages of Firefox, moving too fast.
November 21, 2017 at 6:05 pm #20080Shivanand SharmaKeymasterKarey: you need Firefox 56 ESR and version 31.2.3 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/versions/31.2.3
After installing colorful tabs, go to add-ons > colorful tabs > disable updates.
November 21, 2017 at 6:33 pm #20081looknseeParticipantOn my secondary PC downstairs, the new version of Colorful Tabs got auto-installed, and it is starting to look good. The background is white, the current tab is colored, and I can read the other tabs (black text on white background).
However, on this (my primary) PC, the new version didn't install. I go to the ColorfulTabs website & request an install, I get a "Firefox prevented..." window and choose "Allow". Despite that, I get an error message stating the "Firefox prevented this site from installing an unverified add-on".
Any suggestions?
November 21, 2017 at 6:34 pm #20082Karey KumliParticipantI use Firefox for personal browsing and Chrome for business browsing, simply because I can keep two gmails open when using two browsers. Nice to know CT is partway there for Chrome...
Back to Firefox:
Any of the old versions of non-ESR Firefox will auto-update to 57 when closed & re-opened, that must be why we need to use ESR.Even Mozilla agrees we need a workaround for Firefox 57:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-to-firefox-extended-support-release-esrOn the ESR download page
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/
we are at the mercy of our OS and language. English for Mac downloads as 52.5.0I am absolutely Jubilant to report that CT 31.2.3 works wonderfully on Firefox ESR 52.5.0 !!!!!!!!!!
I will continue to subscribe to this post in order to congratulate you when the issue with Firefox 57 is fixed.
November 21, 2017 at 10:21 pm #20083Shonie RoseParticipantI can find no way to get to:
Karey: you need Firefox 56 ESR and version 31.2.3 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/versions/31.2.3
After installing colorful tabs, go to add-ons > colorful tabs > disable updates.
The ESR page will only give install links for FF52.November 21, 2017 at 10:28 pm #20084Muddy SluutParticipantShivanand, I love Colorful Tabs, but with all the new Firefox changes, it is wiggin' out on me! I understood that it would be only one color, the tab chosen, but now it is also changing my entire browser window and I cannot see the cycling theme I love. When I disable Colorful Tabs, the theme is normal. Hope that helps with any bugs and thank you for your work!
PS I can send screenshots if you need.
November 22, 2017 at 12:01 pm #20085Rómulo GuadalupeParticipantShivanand, I came back to FF 56.0.2 just to be able to use your Add-on ColorFul Tabs.
The version available in FireFox extensions of ColorFulTabs is only for FF 57.
Where can I find the previous one?
RegardsNovember 22, 2017 at 12:03 pm #20086Shivanand SharmaKeymasterAll versions are here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/versions/
November 22, 2017 at 1:09 pm #20087Rómulo GuadalupeParticipantShivanand, Thankyou! Everyting work perfectly.
RegardsNovember 22, 2017 at 10:28 pm #20088CaJazzmanParticipantI have loved ColorfulTabs, for years now. Yes, Firefox 57 has been a challenge, but, until you all fix this hiccup, which I beleieve will be when Mozilla fixes the bug, I'll be very patient, and wait until this issue is completed. You all are awesome, with this addon. Many thanks!
November 23, 2017 at 5:08 pm #20094Shivanand SharmaKeymasterFor anyone else who misses the good 'ol days, please use ColorfulTabs version 31.3.2 from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/colorfultabs/versions/31.2.3 and use Firefox ESR (version 56.0) from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/
November 23, 2017 at 9:39 pm #20095sukki000ParticipantThank you, Shivanand!
November 23, 2017 at 10:31 pm #20096Rex ReedParticipantStill not working.
