Win 7
FF 29.0
Theme: Wongs OS integration theme
Addons: CT 23.8, Adblock Plus, Cookies Manager+I don't know if this is how it's supposed to look like, but it's not looking good for me, and I see version after version being released and nothing is changing. (see screenshot) The tabs are square, it looks like there is no top borderline on tabs, and the left and right borderlines are overlaying with the default borderlines (they are right next to each other), and the "thick colored line" that should be below the tabs is below the address bar.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterAbout the squared tabs:
Firefox 29 uses a background image to give the round shape. In order to let the colors show, I had to remove the background image. This gave me squared tabs that I really liked.
In the future version you'll have an option to control this setting and make the tabs rounded at the top like in previous versions of Firefox. (The bottom round corners are impossible to do; at least for now).
Currently colorfultabs detects whether it is being run inside Firefox 29 and then fixes the issues with australis. If the Firefox version is detected as 30, then colorfultabs doesn't fix the issues. Compatibility for Firefox versions 29 and greater will come in the next version.
Meanwhile, really overwhelmed to know that ColorfulTabs is such a widely used addon. Thanks everyone for using colorfultabs. More coming soon 🙂
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterI had been thinking along the same lines as you, actually (that it might be the fact you were on a different version), so I'd been planning on testing that as well. Good to know the answer!
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterI love CT. Under FF29, the default tab shape is rounded, which I like. However, when I enable CT, the tabs assume right angle corners. Is this by design? I cannot find an option which modifies the shape. Thanks for your hard work on this add-on, I appreciate it a great deal!
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterSee that was easy! 😛 Very interesting...
Shiv, do you know what interface-related changes were made for FF30beta? I don't see much from the release notes; layout.css.background-blend-mode.enabled didn't make a difference. Julia, are you able to try the beta for Mac?
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterYes. I have:
- removed the commenting
- disabled tab mix plus, last pass, personas, and classic theme restorer (which still allows you to choose rounded tabs)
- auto updated to 23.5No joy. Tabs are square.
Updated to CT23.8 - still square tabs.
So, I switched to FF30 beta like you. Lo and behold, rounded tabs! Then I re-enabled all my plugins and the tabs are still round. Definitely compatibility differences between FF29 and 30beta.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterHave you tried temporarily disabling other add-ons/theme? I've tested on Vista and Win7 x86, and Win7 x64. Unless its due to FF30beta...I thought I saw it fixed in 23.6 while still running FF29 though. I can check that out this weekend.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterOk, I installed CT23.8, and the tabs are still square. So, I commented out that section again (having previously undone it when I didn't work), and it still doesn't work. I still see what the original poster sees. Frustrating!
Back to 22.9 I go.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterHmm. My auto update only went to 23.5. I *think* I tried 23.8 as well, but I've gone back and forth so many times by now, I can't recall for sure. So, I will have to try it again and see.
In any case, I commented out starting at the very beginning, just like you mentioned in your post, and got the results I described.
I'll be back after I look for 23.8.
Shivanand SharmaKeymaster>it also put that bar of color on either side of the tab name as shown in the first post of this thread.
The only time I've seen that happen is if you comment out starting from:
.australis .tabbrowser-tab .tab-background-middle,
Instead of from:
.australis .tabbrowser-tab .tab-background-start,
But for me, with 23.6 (from auto-update) and 23.8 (link on this site), all is well by default.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterI'm using Windows 7, Firefox 29. I actually like the rounded corners part of FF29, but, as noted previously, CT 23.5 (and 23.1) breaks that feature. I had to roll back to CT 22.9 to get it to work.
I tried jwh's suggestion of commenting out the section in clrtabs, and while it did round the corners again, it also put that bar of color on either side of the tab name as shown in the first post of this thread.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterUnfortunately, Mac isn't currently doing that jwh. Everything is squared off. What you have would be a definite improvement.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterHere is my Win7 FF30beta CT23.8, off and on; showing the active tab (marked '1'), with the mouse hovered on another (marked '2'), and the normal tab separation markers (at the arrow). Hovering the mouse on other tabs makes them show the rounded corners, like the active tab always shows (mouse is hidden due to the Snipping Tool capture). Does the Mac do this too? Is the question whether CT should color the tabs 'square' like the separator, or 'rounded' like the active or hovered tabs...? Or are you just more concerned with the active tab now getting the curved and non-colored highlight?
The latter is what was fixed for me in 23.6 and newer. Regarding the former, I think how it is now makes more sense, to match the tab separator, instead of the curved 'hover' overlay. Anyway, see my pics...
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterI can make the top corners rounded like in the previous versions. But the bottom ones are tricky.
Shivanand SharmaKeymasterThank you jwh
If I understand you correctly, are asking my opinion on the active tab. I think you noticed how the active tab is more highlighted 'without CT' and that's definitely a feature I like.
What I was really asking was about rounding off the tab corners like 'without CT'. Unfortunately I realized just now when I took a 2nd look at the images it's not clear that ALL the tabs are rounded 'without CT'.
I really think all the tabs 'with CT' have to be rounded like the 'without CT' version of Firefox. That's also consistent with the Mac interface look.
My opinion is that currently 'With CT' the look is so squared off it looks like Win8 - that's probably good for Win8 but not Mac.
