Andy KParticipant
Wow, It has been 8 months since my last post and I thought this thread was dead...
It's a good idea, Steven. Almost a year after Quantum was deployed, I am *still* using my option #2 in the post above yours, FF 56.0.2 with CT 31.2.0. I am unwilling to live without ColorfulTools, and I am unwilling to live without multi-process FF, but I seem to be doing just fine without the rest of Quantum. (I've got the best-looking FF on my block!)
I would consider donating to an effort to get CT working on Waterfox if it would support multi-process, if only so I could get the many security updates that have been released since I froze my versions.
Best regards,
AndyAndy KParticipantIf you love ColorfulTabs like I do and don't want to live without it, you have 2 choices. Both require ditching FF Quantum.
1. If you care about security more than speed, then as others have said, run FF ESR with CT 32.2.3. If you do this, disable auto-updates to CT.
2. If you care about speed more than security, run FF 56.0.2 (the last update before Quantum) with CT 31.2.0. This gets you the benefit of the Firefox multi-process mode, which greatly improves the speed and memory usage of the browser at the cost of being stuck in a static configuration with no security updates. If you do this, disable auto-updates to both FF and CT. This is the config that I use every day.
Andy KParticipantI need ColorfulTabs more than I need FF Quantum. Since FF 57 doesn't support ColorfulTabs, then my solution is to remain on FF 56.0.2. This works fine, just like it did before FF 57 came along to ruin things.
To get the benefit of the Multi-process feature in FF 53-56, you need to revert to ColorfulTabs 31.2.0, but that is not a problem. Just remember to disable auto-updates to FF and to CT. If they ever fix FF57 to support this add-on, then I will consider upgrading to it.
In the meantime, I want to thank Shivanand for all his unpaid work to develop and support his wonderful add-on over the years. No other browser for Windows has anything like it.
